John Green
John was appointed as pastor of YBC in March 2022 after filling the role of interim minister since September 2020. He is married to Philippa and they have four daughters and three grandchildren. John is a trustee of Yorkshire Camps, and also Young Life Holidays - both organisations that run Christian camps.
Deacons
York Baptist Church is served by a team of up to nine deacons. Currently they include:
Joe BENNETT
Joe is married to Lois and they have three sons. He is the church secretary and is also responsible for the management of the church website. Joe runs the York branch of Young Life (younglife.org.uk), and is involved with the annual Holiday Bible club at YBC each year.
Chris mayers
Chris is the pastoral co-ordinator at YBC and a volunteer on the chaplaincy team at York Hospital. She is a retired Professor in Occupational Therapy at York St John University and still does some research.
graham king
Graham began attending YBC as a student in the mid-1990s and never left. He’s married to Eleanor, with three adult daughters. A former biologist, he’s worked in health IT since 2003, specialising in imaging, diagnostics, and big data. At YBC, he coordinates all-age worship, manages worship tech and licensing, and occasionally sings and preaches. He’s passionate about the church using creative gifts in worship.
John worrall
John was elected as a deacon in March 2024 and is involved with home groups and acts as the leadership liason on the fabric group for all matters relating to the fabric of the church buildings. John is also the YBC health and safety officer.
Colin Stonelake
Colin is married to Lydia and has three sons, Barnaby, Joshua and Oliver. He has worshipped at YBC since 1989. Originally an accountant by profession, Colin now works around the world as an international development consultant in fragile and conflict-affected states. He is also Church Treasurer and a trustee of the Zambesi Mission, one of YBC's mission partners. .
Steve Wilson
Steve has been part of the the leadership team at York Baptist for a number of years and has responsibility for audio/visual technology at YBC.
Paul Adedeji
Paul joined as a deacon in March 2025 and is involved in the music team of YBC, serving the Lord with his gift. He is married to Eunice.
Gordon Staniforth
Gordon is married to Catherine and has four adult children. A former professional footballer, he later worked with York City Football in the Community. Gordon is involved in a number of church activities including Jellie Tots and Tuesday Drop In. He became a deacon in 2025.
